Overview

The Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Calculator uses the Widmark formula to estimate BAC based on the amount of alcohol consumed, body weight, sex, and elapsed time. In South Korea, the legal limit for driving is BAC 0.03%; in the US, it is 0.08%.

Formula

BAC (%) = [drink volume (mL) × ABV (%) × 0.7894] / [weight (kg) × Widmark factor (male 0.68, female 0.55) × 1000] - (hours elapsed × 0.015) | Example: Male 70 kg, 2 shots soju (90 mL × 16.9%) → pure alcohol ≈ 12 g, BAC ≈ 0.025% (immediately after)

How to Use

  1. 1Enter your sex and weight in kilograms.
  2. 2Enter the type, quantity, and ABV of the beverages consumed.
  3. 3Enter the time elapsed since you started drinking.
  4. 4Click 'Calculate' to view your estimated BAC.

Tips

  • Results are estimates only — actual BAC varies based on food intake, liver function, medications, and other factors.
  • South Korea DUI thresholds: BAC 0.03% license suspension, 0.08% license revocation and criminal charges.
  • Even small amounts of alcohol can impair driving ability. Never drive after drinking.

FAQ

Q. How long does it take for alcohol to leave my system?

On average, BAC decreases by about 0.015% per hour. A bottle of soju may take approximately 6-7 hours to fully metabolize for a 70 kg male.

Q. Does drinking on an empty stomach raise BAC faster?

Yes. Alcohol is absorbed more quickly on an empty stomach, leading to higher peak BAC levels. Eating before or while drinking slows absorption.

Q. Are BAC estimates from calculators legally reliable?

No. BAC calculators provide rough estimates only. Actual BAC can only be accurately determined with a breathalyzer or blood test. Never rely on a calculator to decide whether you are safe to drive.
