Military Discharge Date Calculator

Calculate military discharge date, remaining days, and service progress.

Overview

The Military Discharge Date Calculator automatically determines your expected discharge date based on your enlistment date and branch of service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, etc.). It reflects the statutory service period for each branch and can account for extensions or reductions in service length.

Formula

Discharge Date = Enlistment Date + Service Period

• Army: 18 months
• Navy: 20 months
• Air Force: 21 months
• Marines: 18 months
• Auxiliary Police: 18 months
• Social Service Agent: 21 months
• Maritime Auxiliary Police: 20 months

The discharge date is the day before the service expiration date. The enlistment day counts as Day 1.

How to Use

  1. 1Enter your enlistment date.
  2. 2Select your branch of service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, etc.).
  3. 3The service period is set automatically; adjust manually if needed.
  4. 4Your expected discharge date and remaining service days are calculated automatically.
  5. 5A service progress percentage and D-Day countdown are also displayed.

Tips

  • Service periods may change with amendments to the Military Service Act, so verify the latest regulations.
  • Discharge dates can be extended due to AWOL, disciplinary confinement, or reassignment.
  • Early discharge programs (e.g., exemplary soldier recognition) may move the date forward.
  • Under the end-of-month discharge policy, the actual discharge date may fall on the last day of the month.

FAQ

Q. What is the service period for each branch?

Under current regulations, the Army and Marines serve 18 months, the Navy 20 months, the Air Force 21 months, and Social Service Agents 21 months. These periods may change with revisions to the Military Service Act.

Q. What is the early discharge program?

It is a system that shortens service for soldiers who meet certain criteria, such as exemplary conduct. Past programs like early discharge for outstanding soldiers have been scaled back or modified, so check with your unit for current policies.

Q. What reasons can change the discharge date?

AWOL, desertion, disciplinary confinement, and court-martial can extend the service period and delay discharge. Conversely, early discharge programs can bring the date forward.

Q. What is the end-of-month discharge policy?

This policy sets the actual discharge to the last day of the month in which the scheduled discharge falls. For example, if the calculated date is March 15, the actual discharge would be March 31. It is implemented for administrative convenience.
