Overview

The Child Support Calculator estimates appropriate child support amounts based on the number and ages of children and parental income levels. Referencing the Seoul Family Court child support guidelines, it provides standard support amounts by income bracket, helping parents determine reasonable amounts during divorce negotiations or court proceedings. Assess accurate child support in advance to ensure a stable environment for your children.

Formula

Child Support = Base Amount (by combined parental income bracket) × Child Count Weight × Age Adjustment

Base Amount: Determined by the Seoul Family Court guidelines according to combined parental income bracket (2M–10M+ KRW) and child age groups (0–2, 3–5, 6–11, 12–14, 15+)
Child Count Weight: Adjusted for 2 or more children
Support Ratio = Non-custodial Parent Income / Combined Parental Income
Non-custodial Payment = Child Support × Support Ratio

How to Use

  1. 1Enter the number of children and each child's age.
  2. 2Enter the custodial parent's monthly income.
  3. 3Enter the non-custodial parent's monthly income.
  4. 4Enter any additional costs (education, medical, or other special expenses) if applicable.
  5. 5Click Calculate to view the base support amount, support ratio, and non-custodial parent's payment.

Tips

  • The child support guidelines are revised by the Seoul Family Court every 2–3 years. Check the latest version for accurate calculations.
  • Parental agreement takes priority for child support. If agreement is not possible, you can file for a child support ruling at the family court. Agreements notarized as public deeds are enforceable.
  • As children grow, reasons for increasing or decreasing support may arise. You can petition for modifications due to rising education costs, medical expenses, or income changes.
  • The Child Support Enforcement Agency can assist with payment enforcement, collection, and sanctions for non-compliance.

FAQ

Q. What are the child support guidelines (양육비산정기준표)?

The child support guidelines are standard reference tables published by the Seoul Family Court that suggest appropriate support amounts based on combined parental income brackets and children's ages. While not legally binding, they are the most important reference in court rulings and negotiations. The most recent revision was published in March 2024.

Q. How is income verified?

Salaried workers can prove income through tax withholding receipts, pay stubs, and health insurance enrollment certificates. Self-employed individuals use comprehensive income tax returns and business account statements. If income is concealed, you can request a court-ordered financial investigation or financial transaction disclosure.

Q. What happens if child support is not paid?

If child support is not paid, you can request enforcement through the Child Support Enforcement Agency. With a court ruling or notarized agreement, compulsory execution (wage garnishment, asset seizure) is possible. Since 2024, additional sanctions such as driver's license suspension and passport issuance restrictions have been implemented for non-payers.

Q. Can adult children receive child support?

In principle, child support ends when the child reaches the age of majority (19 in Korea). However, if the child is enrolled in university, support for tuition and living expenses can be petitioned to the court. Court precedents have recognized support obligations until university graduation in certain cases.
