Enhanced ACT(2025~)

Overview
Convert an ACT Composite to an SAT Total, or an SAT Total to an ACT Composite, using the official 2018 ACT/SAT Concordance Tables jointly published by the College Board and ACT. The calculator reproduces Tables A1 and A2 so you see both the single-point equivalent and the official score range, tells students who took both tests which score is stronger to submit, and converts a target score into your own test's scale to show how far you have to go. The 2018 tables remain the current official concordance after the 2024 digital SAT and the 2025 Enhanced ACT.
Formula
ACT→SAT: look up the ACT Composite in 2018 Concordance Table A2 for the SAT single-point value and range (e.g. ACT 30 → SAT 1370, range 1360-1380). SAT→ACT: find the range containing the SAT Total in Table A1 (e.g. SAT 1400 → ACT 31). Stronger score: if the actual SAT is above the upper bound of the ACT's concordant range the SAT is stronger, below the lower bound the ACT is stronger, inside the range they are equivalent. Points remaining = target (converted to your test's scale) − current score.
How to Use
- 1Choose a direction: 'ACT → SAT' if you only have an ACT score, 'SAT → ACT' if you only have an SAT, or 'compare both' if you have both.
- 2Enter your ACT Composite (1-36) or SAT Total (400-1600, in steps of 10). An Enhanced ACT Composite built from English, Math and Reading goes in as-is.
- 3Pick the test your target score is expressed in (SAT or ACT) and enter the target.
- 4Read the concordant score and official range, which test is stronger, the points remaining to your target, and the full table.
Examples
Convert an ACT 30 to the SAT
An ACT-only student checking a college whose middle-50% SAT starts at 1400.
SAT 1250 vs ACT 28: which to submit
A student who took both tests and may send only one score report.
Convert an SAT 1520 to the ACT
A high scorer comparing against a published median of ACT 34.
Background
The ACT/SAT Concordance was released jointly by the College Board and ACT in June 2018 after linking the scores of roughly 589,000 students who took both tests in 2016-2017 using an equipercentile method. It replaced the 2016 tables that accompanied the redesigned SAT and has not been updated since, making the 2018 edition the current official reference. ACT's Guide to the 2018 ACT/SAT Concordance publishes a single-point ACT-to-SAT table (Table A2) for one-to-one comparisons and a 10-point SAT-to-ACT lookup (Table A1). Both organisations stress that concordance pairs scores at the same percentile rather than certifying equal ability. The 2024 digital SAT was shown in pre-launch studies to be score-comparable with the paper SAT, and the 2025 Enhanced ACT keeps the 1-36 Composite scale with Science optional, which is why ACT continues to point colleges to the 2018 tables.
Tips
- ✔Read the range, not just the point value. One ACT point spans roughly 30-40 SAT points, and the College Board reports a standard error of about ±80 SAT points in the ACT→SAT direction.
- ✔If both of your scores fall inside the same concordant range they are interchangeable; decide by section strengths instead.
- ✔Superscoring policies differ: most colleges superscore the SAT, but not all superscore the ACT. Check before you convert a superscored total.
- ✔The 2018 tables are the latest and are not refreshed annually. If a college publishes its own conversion chart, that chart wins.
FAQ
Q. What SAT score equals an ACT 30?
In the 2018 official concordance an ACT Composite of 30 corresponds to an SAT Total of 1370, with an official range of 1360-1380. Going the other way, SAT 1360, 1370 and 1380 all concord to ACT 30.
Q. Do the tables still apply to the digital SAT and the Enhanced ACT?
Yes. The College Board ran two concordance studies before launching the digital SAT and found its scores comparable to the paper test, and ACT states that it expects the 2018 concordance to hold for the 2025 Enhanced ACT because Composite performance showed no statistically significant difference. Neither organisation has formally reissued the tables, so confirm each college's own policy for high-stakes decisions.
Q. What ACT score is an SAT 1400?
SAT 1390-1410 falls in the ACT 31 band, so 1400 converts to ACT 31. Converting ACT 31 back gives the single-point SAT value 1400 (range 1390-1410), so the two directions agree.
Q. If the converted scores are equal, which test should I send?
When the totals are equivalent, decide by the section scores the college cares about and its superscoring policy. Engineering and math programmes may look at SAT Math or ACT Math and Science separately, and at test-optional colleges you can also choose to send neither.
