Overview
The CSAT Grade Cutoff Calculator converts your raw score, test average, and standard deviation into a standard score, percentile, and grade tier at once. Korea's CSAT (수능) uses relative grading, so the same raw score yields different standard scores and grades depending on test difficulty and the cohort. Assuming a normal distribution, this tool estimates your percentile and 9-tier grade, and shows the raw-score and standard-score cutoffs for each grade based on this exam. Use it for post-exam grade prediction and college application strategy.
Formula
Z = (Raw Score - Average) / Standard Deviation Standard Score = 20 × Z + 100 Percentile = Φ(Z) × 100 (Φ = standard normal CDF) Grade (by percentile): Tier 1: 96+ / 2: 89+ / 3: 77+ / 4: 60+ / 5: 40+ / 6: 23+ / 7: 11+ / 8: 4+ / 9: below 4
How to Use
- 1Enter your raw score for the subject.
- 2Enter the subject average from your score report.
- 3Enter the standard deviation from your score report.
- 4View your standard score, percentile, estimated grade, and cutoff table.
Tips
- ✔The harder the exam (lower average), the higher the maximum standard score. Korean and Math typically peak around 130–150.
- ✔Percentile matters most for the regular admission track, so focus on managing percentile and standard score over raw score.
- ✔English, Korean History, and second foreign languages use absolute grading, which differs from this relative-grade estimate.
- ✔Actual cutoffs are set by the full cohort distribution, so treat this estimate as a planning reference.
FAQ
Q. How is the standard score calculated?
Standard Score = 20 × Z + 100, where Z = (Raw Score − Average) ÷ Standard Deviation. Scoring the average gives 100; one standard deviation above gives 120. Harder exams produce higher maximum standard scores.
Q. How do percentile and grade differ?
Percentile is the share of test-takers scoring below you (0–100), while the grade tier divides percentiles into 9 bands. For example, a percentile of 96+ is Tier 1, and 89–96 is Tier 2.
Q. Is the predicted grade accurate?
It is an estimate assuming a normal distribution. If the actual cohort distribution differs, cutoffs may vary, so compare against multiple admissions agencies' predicted cutoffs.
