Overview

The CSAT English Grade Calculator instantly converts your raw English score on Korea's College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) into an absolute-scale grade from 1 to 9. Since the 2018 exam year, CSAT English has been graded on an absolute scale: your grade depends only on your own raw score, with fixed cutoffs at 10-point intervals (90, 80, 70, and so on). The calculator also shows how many points you need to reach the next grade, making it easy to set study targets.

Formula

CSAT English absolute grading scale (raw score out of 100, fixed 10-point bands)

Grade 1: 90 or above
Grade 2: 80–89
Grade 3: 70–79
Grade 4: 60–69
Grade 5: 50–59
Grade 6: 40–49
Grade 7: 30–39
Grade 8: 20–29
Grade 9: below 20

Example: raw score 85 → Grade 2 (5 points short of Grade 1)

How to Use

  1. 1Enter your raw English score (0–100) from the CSAT or a mock exam.
  2. 2Your absolute-scale grade is calculated automatically.
  3. 3Check how many points you need for the next grade and your margin above the current grade's cutoff.
  4. 4Review the full grade table to see every band at a glance.

Tips

  • Because English is absolutely graded, cutoffs stay fixed at 90/80/70 regardless of exam difficulty — no need to wait for cutoff announcements.
  • If you sit at a boundary score like 89 or 79, a single 2–3 point question decides your grade, so minimizing careless mistakes matters most.
  • Universities reflect English grades differently (deductions, bonus points, or converted scores per grade), so check each university's admission guide for the gap between grades.
  • Korean, Math, and electives are relatively graded via standard scores and percentiles — use the CSAT Grade Cutoff Calculator for those subjects.

FAQ

Q. How is the CSAT English grade calculated?

It is an absolute scale in 10-point bands out of 100: 90+ is Grade 1, 80–89 is Grade 2, down to Grade 9 below 20 points. Your grade depends solely on your own raw score, not on how other test-takers perform.

Q. Do English grade cutoffs change every year?

No. English cutoffs are fixed at 90/80/70…20 every year. Even in a difficult exam, 90 or above is always Grade 1, and 89 is always Grade 2 — unlike Korean and Math, where cutoffs shift with the score distribution.

Q. Does English have standard scores and percentiles?

No. Absolutely graded subjects (English and Korean History) report only a grade — no standard score or percentile. In regular admissions, universities apply grade-based deductions, bonus points, or converted scores for English.

Q. How is this different from the CSAT Grade Cutoff Calculator?

That calculator estimates standard scores, percentiles, and grades for relatively graded subjects (Korean, Math, electives) using averages and standard deviations. This one applies the fixed absolute cutoffs unique to English, so your raw score alone determines the grade.
