Overview

The Class Rank Percentile Calculator applies the official Korean school-record formula — (rank + tied students − 1) ÷ class size × 100 — and converts the result into both the new 5-tier grade (for students who entered high school from 2025) and the traditional 9-tier grade. It also shows the exact rank you need for each grade band given your class size.

How to Use

1. 1Enter the class size (all students enrolled in that subject).

3. 3Enter the number of students tied at your rank, including yourself (1 if none).
4. 4Read off your rank percentile plus the 5-tier and 9-tier grades and rank cutoffs.

Examples

Background

Korea's school-record guidelines define rank percentile as (rank + tied students − 1) ÷ class size × 100. Tied students all share a rank, but the percentile treats them as occupying the places behind, so ties are always disadvantageous. From the 2025 entering cohort, high school internal grades moved to a 5-tier relative scale in which the top band widened from 4% to 10%; students who entered in 2024 or earlier keep the 9-tier scale. That is why the same rank percentile maps to different grades by school year.

Tips

• ✔Leaving out tied students makes the result look better than your actual record — check the ties column on your report card.
• ✔Electives with few students have very small top bands; check the rank cutoffs before choosing subjects.
• ✔Rank percentile is 'top X%' (lower is better); percentile rank is the inverse (higher is better).
• ✔Scholarships typically require a rank percentile within the top 10–30%.
