Overview
The Weekly Holiday Pay Calculator computes the paid weekly holiday allowance for employees working 15 or more hours per week. Under Article 55 of Korea's Labor Standards Act, workers who complete a full week of scheduled working days receive one paid day off. This tool is essential for hourly workers (such as part-timers) to understand their effective hourly rate and monthly pay equivalent.
Formula
Weekly Holiday Pay = Daily Contractual Hours × Hourly Wage • Daily Contractual Hours = Total Weekly Hours ÷ Working Days per Week • Example: 5 days, 8 hours/day → Daily hours = 40 ÷ 5 = 8 hours → Weekly Holiday Pay = 8 hours × Hourly Wage • Example: 3 days, 5 hours/day → Daily hours = 15 ÷ 3 = 5 hours → Weekly Holiday Pay = 5 hours × Hourly Wage • Effective hourly rate (incl. holiday pay) = Hourly Wage × (Weekly Hours + Holiday Hours) ÷ Weekly Hours
How to Use
- 1Enter your hourly wage.
- 2Enter the number of working days per week.
- 3Enter the number of hours worked per day.
- 4The weekly holiday pay amount and effective hourly rate are calculated automatically.
- 5A monthly pay estimate (including weekly holiday pay) is also displayed.
Tips
- ✔Workers averaging fewer than 15 hours per week are not entitled to weekly holiday pay.
- ✔Verify that the hourly wage including holiday pay meets minimum wage requirements. At the 2025 minimum wage of KRW 10,030, the effective rate including holiday pay is approximately KRW 12,036.
- ✔An unexcused absence during the scheduled workweek may forfeit that week's holiday pay.
- ✔Salaried (monthly-pay) employees already have weekly holiday pay included in their salary, so no separate payment applies.
FAQ
Q. What are the requirements for weekly holiday pay?
Employees must work 15 or more hours per week and complete all scheduled working days in a given week. Those working fewer than 15 hours are excluded. The entitlement applies regardless of employment type — full-time, part-time, or contract workers all qualify if they meet the conditions.
Q. How can I verify if holiday pay is included in my hourly wage?
Some employers quote an hourly wage that includes weekly holiday pay. In such cases, the base hourly wage (excluding holiday pay) must still meet the minimum wage. For example, KRW 12,000/hour including holiday pay means the base rate is about KRW 10,000, which may fall below the 2025 minimum wage of KRW 10,030.
Q. Do salaried workers receive separate weekly holiday pay?
No. Monthly salaries already incorporate weekly holiday pay. The standard 209 monthly hours (40 working hours + 8 holiday hours per week) multiplied by the hourly rate equals the monthly salary, so no additional holiday pay is owed.
Q. Is weekly holiday pay owed for the final week before resignation?
If the employee completed all scheduled working days in the week of resignation, weekly holiday pay is owed. However, if the resignation date falls mid-week and the full schedule is not completed, holiday pay may not apply for that week. Specific determinations should reference the employment contract and relevant case law.
