Overview

The Health Insurance Premium Calculator automatically computes monthly National Health Insurance and long-term care insurance premiums for both employee (workplace) and self-employed (regional) subscribers in Korea. Employee premiums are based on monthly remuneration, while regional premiums factor in income, property, and vehicle ownership. Reflecting the latest 2026 rates, this tool helps you accurately determine your actual health insurance costs.

Formula

Employee Health Insurance = Monthly Remuneration × 7.09% × 50% (employee share)
Long-term Care Insurance = Health Insurance Premium × 12.81%

Regional Health Insurance = Assessment Points × Point Value (208.4 KRW)
Assessment Points = Income Points + Property Points + Vehicle Points

Total Employee Payment = Health Insurance (employee share) + Long-term Care Insurance

How to Use

  1. 1Select your subscriber type (employee or regional/self-employed).
  2. 2For employees, enter your monthly remuneration (pre-tax salary). For regional subscribers, enter annual income, property, and vehicle information.
  3. 3Click Calculate to view your health insurance and long-term care premiums.
  4. 4The employee and employer shares are displayed separately so you can see the exact amount deducted from your paycheck.

Tips

  • Being registered as a dependent of an employee subscriber means receiving health insurance benefits without paying separate premiums. However, dependents with annual income exceeding 20 million KRW lose their dependent status.
  • Regional subscribers may face higher premiums due to property and vehicles even with low income. Check whether the expanded property deductions from the Phase 2 reform apply to you.
  • Switching from employee to regional status after retirement can significantly increase premiums. The voluntary continuation program lets you maintain employee-level premiums for up to 36 months.
  • Check if you qualify for premium reduction programs (disabled persons, veterans, rural residents, etc.) to lower your insurance burden.

FAQ

Q. What is the difference between employee and regional subscribers?

Employee subscribers are workers employed by a company. Their premiums are based on monthly remuneration and split 50/50 with the employer. Regional subscribers are non-employees (self-employed, unemployed). Their premiums are based on income, property, and vehicle ownership, and they bear the full cost themselves.

Q. What is the 2026 health insurance premium rate?

The 2026 employee health insurance rate is 7.09% of monthly remuneration, split equally at 3.545% each for employee and employer. The long-term care insurance rate is 12.81% of the health insurance premium. Rates tend to increase slightly each year, so check for changes at the start of the year.

Q. What are the conditions for dependent status?

A spouse, direct ascendants/descendants, and siblings of an employee subscriber can qualify as dependents. However, dependent status is lost if annual income exceeds 20 million KRW, property tax base exceeds 540 million KRW, or the person holds a business registration.

Q. Are premiums adjusted immediately when income changes?

For employee subscribers, premiums adjust the following month when monthly remuneration changes. For regional subscribers, premiums are recalculated annually in November based on the prior year's income and property data. If your income changes significantly, you can apply for an adjustment through the National Health Insurance Service.
