Overview

The Trigonometry Calculator computes sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, and cot for angles in degrees or radians. It also supports inverse trigonometric functions and helps analyze relationships between sides and angles of triangles.

Formula

Basic trig (right triangle):
sin(θ) = opposite / hypotenuse
cos(θ) = adjacent / hypotenuse
tan(θ) = opposite / adjacent = sin(θ) / cos(θ)

Reciprocals: csc(θ) = 1/sin(θ), sec(θ) = 1/cos(θ), cot(θ) = 1/tan(θ)

Pythagorean identity: sin²(θ) + cos²(θ) = 1

Radian conversion: θ(rad) = θ(°) × π / 180

How to Use

  1. 1Select the angle unit (degrees or radians).
  2. 2Enter the angle value.
  3. 3All trigonometric values (sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, cot) are calculated at once.
  4. 4For inverse functions, enter a trig value to find the corresponding angle.

Tips

  • Memorize trig values for special angles (30°, 45°, 60°, 90°) for convenience.
  • tan(90°) is undefined because cos(90°) = 0.
  • In radians: 360° = 2π, 180° = π, 90° = π/2.

FAQ

Q. What is the difference between degrees and radians?

Degrees divide a full circle into 360 parts. Radians define one radian as the angle where the arc length equals the radius (≈57.3°). Radians are preferred in math/science; degrees are common in everyday use.

Q. Where are trigonometric functions used?

Structural engineering (buildings, bridges), GPS positioning, sound/radio wave analysis, computer graphics (rotation), astronomy (distance measurement), and many more fields.

Q. What are inverse trigonometric functions?

They are the inverses of trig functions, finding angles from trig values. arcsin (sin⁻¹), arccos (cos⁻¹), arctan (tan⁻¹). For example, arcsin(0.5) = 30°.
