Overview
Analyze the stroke count of Chinese characters (Hanja) in a Korean name and evaluate fortune based on the Five-Grid (Ogyek) system of East Asian onomastics. This is a cultural reference tool for fun and tradition, not based on scientific evidence.
Formula
Five-Grid (Ogyek) Calculation: - Wongyeok (Heaven Grid) = Surname stroke count + 1 (single-character surname) - Hyunggyeok (Person Grid) = Last character of surname + First character of given name - Igyeok (Earth Grid) = Total stroke count of given name - Jeonggyeok (Outer Grid) = Wongyeok + Igyeok - Hyunggyeok - Chonggyeok (Total Grid) = Total stroke count of full name * Each grid number is classified as auspicious, neutral, or inauspicious.
How to Use
- 1Enter the surname (in Hanja or Hangul).
- 2Enter the given name (in Hanja or Hangul).
- 3If only Hangul is entered, representative Hanja stroke counts are used.
- 4Click the 'Analyze' button.
- 5Five-Grid analysis results with fortune interpretation are displayed.
Tips
- ✔Traditional practice uses the original (unmodified) stroke count of each character.
- ✔The same Hangul syllable can correspond to different Hanja characters with different stroke counts.
- ✔Name analysis based on stroke counts is a cultural tradition, not a scientifically validated method.
- ✔Consider practical factors such as pronunciation, meaning, and ease of use when choosing a name.
- ✔This tool is for entertainment and cultural reference; it does not replace professional naming consultation.
FAQ
Q. What is the Five-Grid (Ogyek) system?
The Five-Grid system derives five numerical values from the Hanja stroke counts in a name. Wongyeok represents family fortune, Hyunggyeok represents personality and relationships, Igyeok represents fortune in youth, Jeonggyeok represents social fortune, and Chonggyeok represents lifelong fortune.
Q. Can Hangul-only names be analyzed?
Hangul does not have a clear stroke-count system. Typically, the corresponding Hanja character's stroke count is used. When only Hangul is entered, the tool estimates based on common Hanja equivalents.
Q. Is stroke-based naming analysis scientific?
Stroke-based naming is part of East Asian cultural tradition and is not scientifically validated. It should be used for fun and cultural reference rather than as a decisive criterion for naming.
