Overview

The Electricity Cost Calculator estimates your monthly electricity bill based on KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) progressive rate tiers. It supports residential (low/high voltage), commercial, and industrial rate structures.

Formula

Electricity Bill = Base Charge + Energy Charge (usage × tiered unit price) + Climate/Environment Charge + Fuel Cost Adjustment + VAT (10%) + Electric Power Industry Fund (3.7%). Residential rates apply progressive pricing based on usage tiers.

How to Use

  1. 1Select the usage type (residential, commercial, etc.).
  2. 2Enter your monthly electricity usage in kWh.
  3. 3The base charge, energy charge, taxes, and surcharges are itemized.
  4. 4The estimated total bill is displayed.

Tips

  • Residential electricity in Korea uses a progressive rate system — higher usage means a higher unit price.
  • Summer (Jul–Aug) and winter (Dec–Feb) have relaxed tier thresholds as seasonal exceptions.
  • A single 2.5 kW air conditioner running 8 hours/day adds roughly 600 kWh per month.
  • Eliminating standby power alone can reduce your bill by 5–10%.
  • Check real-time usage through the KEPCO app or customer service center.

FAQ

Q. What is the progressive rate system?

The progressive (tiered) rate system increases the per-kWh unit price as usage rises. Residential electricity has multiple tiers, each with a higher rate.

Q. Why do summer and winter bills differ?

During summer (Jul–Aug) and winter (Dec–Feb), KEPCO raises the tier thresholds to ease the burden of higher cooling and heating demand.

Q. What items appear on a Korean electricity bill?

Base Charge + Energy Charge + Climate/Environment Charge + Fuel Cost Adjustment = Pre-tax electricity charge. Add VAT (10%) and the Electric Power Industry Fund (3.7%) for the final billed amount.
