EV Subsidy Calculator
Calculate 2026 national and local EV subsidies by vehicle price and region.
Overview
The EV Subsidy Calculator estimates the national and local government subsidies available when purchasing an electric vehicle in South Korea as of 2026. Subsidy amounts vary based on vehicle price, battery capacity, driving range per charge, and energy efficiency. The program is the government's flagship initiative to accelerate EV adoption across the country.
Formula
EV Subsidy = National Subsidy + Local Government Subsidy. National Subsidy = Base Subsidy (performance-based) × Price Coefficient. Price Coefficient: 100% for vehicles priced ≤ KRW 55M, 50% for 55M–85M, 0% for > 85M. Performance subsidy is determined by a comprehensive evaluation of range per charge, energy efficiency (km/kWh), battery capacity, and safety. Local government subsidies are set independently by each region.
How to Use
- 1Enter the retail price of the electric vehicle you plan to purchase.
- 2Enter the battery capacity (kWh) and driving range per charge (km).
- 3Select your residential region (province/city and district).
- 4Click 'Calculate' to see the national subsidy, local subsidy, and total combined subsidy.
Tips
- ✔Vehicles priced at KRW 55 million or below receive 100% of the national subsidy, making them the most cost-effective choice.
- ✔Local subsidies vary significantly by region (differences of several million KRW), so always verify your area's specific amount.
- ✔Subsidies are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so applying early in the year is advantageous.
- ✔Used EVs and imported EVs may also qualify; check the Ministry of Environment's Zero-Emission Vehicle portal for details.
FAQ
Q. How do I apply for an EV subsidy?
After signing a purchase contract, apply through the Ministry of Environment's Zero-Emission Vehicle portal (ev.or.kr) before the vehicle is delivered. Once the local government approves your application, register the vehicle and the subsidy is paid to the manufacturer or importer, so you pay the reduced price.
Q. What are the vehicle price thresholds for the subsidy?
Based on the manufacturer's suggested retail price: vehicles at KRW 55 million or below receive 100% of the national subsidy, vehicles between KRW 55M and 85M receive 50%, and vehicles above KRW 85M receive no national subsidy. Local subsidies may have separate criteria.
Q. Where can I check local government subsidies?
Visit the Ministry of Environment's Zero-Emission Vehicle portal (ev.or.kr) to view real-time regional subsidy amounts and remaining quotas. Individual local government websites also post announcements.
Q. Can businesses or corporations receive EV subsidies?
Yes, corporations, public institutions, and local governments can apply for subsidies in addition to individuals. However, local governments may impose quantity limits when the same entity applies for a large number of vehicles.
