Coffee Ratio Calculator
Calculate optimal coffee-to-water ratio.
브루잉 정보
Overview
The Coffee Ratio Calculator determines the optimal coffee-to-water ratio based on your brewing method — pour-over, espresso, French press, cold brew, AeroPress, and more. Enter either the amount of coffee grounds or desired brew volume, and it automatically calculates the corresponding measurement for a consistently great cup.
Formula
Water (ml) = Coffee (g) x Ratio. Common ratios: Pour-over 1:15-1:17, Espresso 1:2, French press 1:12-1:15, Cold brew 1:5-1:8, AeroPress 1:11-1:14. Example: 20g coffee at 1:16 ratio = 320ml water.
How to Use
- 1Select your brewing method (pour-over, espresso, French press, etc.).
- 2Enter coffee grounds weight (g) or desired brew volume (ml).
- 3Choose your preferred strength (light / medium / strong).
- 4View the calculated coffee and water amounts.
Tips
- ✔Grind beans just before brewing for the best flavor and aroma.
- ✔For pour-over, water temperature should be 92-96C (197-205F). Water that is too hot causes bitterness.
- ✔Grind size dramatically affects taste — even with the same ratio, finer grinds extract more.
- ✔Cold brew concentrate (1:5) should be diluted 1:1 or 1:2 with water or milk before drinking.
FAQ
Q. What does a 1:16 coffee ratio mean?
A 1:16 ratio means 1 gram of coffee for every 16ml (or 16g) of water. So 20g of coffee needs 320ml of water. Lower ratios (1:12) produce stronger coffee, higher ratios (1:18) produce lighter coffee.
Q. Why are espresso and pour-over ratios so different?
Espresso uses high pressure (9 bars) for rapid extraction, requiring a concentrated ratio (1:2). Pour-over relies on gravity for slower extraction, needing more water (1:15-17). Each method's mechanics determine its optimal ratio.
Q. How much coffee do I need for one cup?
For one cup of pour-over coffee (~250ml), you need about 15-18g of ground coffee. A single espresso shot uses 18-20g of coffee to produce 36-40ml of espresso. Adjust by +/-2g to match your taste preference.
