Overview

The Deposit Calculator computes the maturity amount when a lump sum is deposited for a fixed term. Enter the deposit amount, interest rate, and term to see simple or compound interest and the after-tax maturity payout.

Formula

Simple Interest = Principal × Annual Rate × Years. Compound Interest = Principal × ((1 + r/n)^(n×t) - 1). After-tax Amount = Principal + Interest × (1 - Tax Rate).

How to Use

  1. 1Enter the deposit amount (principal).
  2. 2Enter the annual interest rate (%).
  3. 3Set the deposit term (months or years).
  4. 4Select the interest method (simple/compound) and tax type.
  5. 5Click Calculate to view the maturity payout.

Tips

  • Compare rates across multiple banks, as they can vary significantly for the same term.
  • Compound interest products are more beneficial for longer terms; for short terms, the difference is minimal.
  • Deposit insurance covers up to KRW 50 million per person per institution — consider spreading larger sums.

FAQ

Q. Is simple or compound interest better for deposits?

Compound interest is always better at the same rate. However, compound products may offer a slightly lower nominal rate, so compare the actual maturity payouts directly.

Q. What is the deposit insurance limit in Korea?

The Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation protects up to KRW 50 million (principal + interest combined) per depositor per financial institution. Amounts exceeding this limit are not covered.

Q. What are promotional (special) deposits?

Promotional deposits are limited-time products banks offer at higher-than-normal interest rates. They often have capped enrollment, so check bank apps and websites frequently for availability.
